A LITTLE ART HISTORY
As an artist I have long been attracted to steel as a sculpture medium. During my college years (University California Davis BA 1968, MFA 1971) I approached the material with an industrial technique, in terms of fabrication and finish; paint, chrome plating, galvanizing. The sculptural shapes, however, had no direct industrial reference. It was the the 60's and early 70's; such a great time for exploration.I was fortunate to show my work in galleries and receive some awards during this period.
The joy of creating and building sculpture eventually lead to a 40 year profession as an Architect and custom home builder with a few excursions into art along the way.
Now I am retired and fully involved in making art again. Throughout my career as an artist and Architect I am most drawn to the "less is more" dictum letting shape, texture and finish play against each other. I am currently focusing on freestanding sculpture. Additionally, I am working on Corten steel wall sculpture which has a strong resemblance to abstract painting consisting of natural steel, polished and ground steel as well as rust and paint.
